We are a Faith Community in partnership with our neighbors, discerning needs with dignity and respect, in service together to benefit all of God's kingdom, through Christ.
Bethany Lutheran Church was reborn in 2015 when the congregations of Bethany and Holy Trinity voted to merge. The official vote was held on June 18 where both church bodies voted to join into a single congregation. The union was complete in October, when the NYS Supreme Court accepted the merger of the two congregations. The church has chosen Reformation Sunday to celebrate their new beginning.
With the blending of the congregations, the new Bethany Lutheran was primed to enhance the worship and music ministries that were central to both congregations. There was also a spark to look outside the four walls of the building, for Bethany to serve the community in new ways. The new congregation sought to define who they are now.
After many discussions and cottage meetings, the congregation chose Matthew 25 as the guiding scripture as they planned new ministries.
More recently Bethany has taken Matthew 25 and created a vision statement that guides the church in more tangible ways.
As churches did across the country, in March 2020, Bethany closed its physical doors due to the global pandemic. COVID-19 has challenged the church to find ways to share ministry on-line as well as safely supporting people in-person. What began with an iPhone propped on a table and books for streaming worship has grown to include audio zoom, so people without technology can still dial in and listen to the service. The reach has been across the country and in a few places around the world. With the knowledge of the impact, the congregation approved the funds to purchase the equipment to enhance and expand the ways to connect with people who cannot be present in the sanctuary.
