Welcome to Virtual VBS 2021!
This year, we will focus on the message that
No matter where we are,
God is with us -
He's on our team
That is great news!
Join us for 5 days of fun, music, crafts, and lessons –
you’ll be glad you did… and we will, too!
Starting Monday, July 26, we will meet for five consecutive evenings from 7:00 – 7:30 p.m. using Zoom. Each day before our session starts, you should view the video for that day that you see to your right. Every video will have an introduction, a skit, an animation of the day’s story, and instructions for the craft.
You will also receive a power point each morning which will summarize the story of the day and pose three questions related to the story. You can choose to send your answers by email or type your answers into the chat box during our Zoom meeting.
Allow yourself time to complete the craft project before we start our Zoom session. Everyone will have a chance to show off their completed project. The craft will be related to the Bible story of the day.
This year, we will hear the stories of 5 different groups of people, some from the Old Testament and some from the New Testament. The skits follow a game show format, more or less.
So why tell Bible stories as if these people were on game shows? It is unlikely that any of you have been on a game show, and since there was no television in ancient Israel, no one back then would have been in a game show, either.
If you have ever watched a game show on T.V., you know that the contestants need to make decisions; they always have a choice to make: What’s the price of this item? Should I answer this question? What letter should I choose?
Even though you haven’t been on a game show, you have had to make choices. Some decisions are not risky: What flavor ice cream should I choose? Others could cause hard feelings: Should I go to my cousin’s pool party or to my friend’s indoor birthday party? And some could be even harder to make: Should I tell the teacher that Jamie was the one who took money out of her wallet?
All our stories are about people who had to make a difficult decision. One group of women were afraid they would be ridiculed if they told their story. Another group knew they would be arrested if they continued to preach about Jesus. Two stories are about people whose decision might have resulted in their death. And one story is about a man who was asked to lead an impossibly small army against a large group of invaders.
In every case, God was on their side. Or to put it in game show terms, God was on their team. None of them won cars or a lot of money, but all of them made a difference: they saved their people or spread the good news of Jesus.
